JOURNEY OF A LAW STUDENT TO LAWYER

Success is something that does not come into your life easily, it’s not a property that will be passed
from generation to generation, it’s something that you get after years of hard work and patience. Every now and then people admire the life of their role models, especially law students, role models/mentors are their senior advocates under whom they learn about the working of the courts and its procedures. This learning and training are termed a “legal internship”. But somehow we are not ready to understand that our seniors were not served with success, cases or offices after just getting a law degree. Starting from the very first day as a law student and struggling after getting a law degree all these years of hard work made them what they are today.

As a budding advocate, I completed a five-year law course after giving about 56 semester examinations, a 300-page dissertation and only god knows how many assignments and internal assessment papers.

I still remember the day when I presented my first seminar paper, I was nervous about speaking in front of a crowd in the seminar hall, on that day my law professor told me that in order to become a successful lawyer you must become a good and confident speaker first. I practiced and improved my speaking skills and after that, I won the best presentation award in an international law seminar on cybercrime.

In the law college for the very first time, we wore that black suit, To be honest on that very day we all were lawyers in our own eyes. On that day we thought about getting a lot of cases and winning all of them, “yes we all did that”.

The most important phase in a Lawyer’s/law student’s life is the internship period. Remember that feeling of visiting the real court and getting to know that the actual court is different from the moot court in the college, the working of this court is entirely different. To be honest, awarded the best future lawyer in my college, I thought that I knew everything about the working of the court, but after completing the law college we all were blank. This is exactly where the race for success begins, we enroll ourselves as lawyers and enter a new chapter of our life.

We all remember our first day as an official lawyer wearing the lawyer’s band and clicking a photo in front of the Hon’ble courts it was indeed our guilty pleasure. After all this, we struggle to find out what is our caliber as a lawyer and what type of cases are we good at handling, because as a lawyer we have the most important duty to serve justice and represent our clients in the court of law. Carrying all those files in the court of law makes us realise that making assignments and moot court files in law school is easy but drafting a real case file is where the actual hard work starts, which is only the first step to success.

You choose your own path, don’t let others tell you what is good for you. Work hard to achieve what you really want and then you will see that you fulfill your duties in a more efficient way by enjoying what you do.

In short, actually, in very less words a journey from a law student to a lawyer is presented. One has to
complete this journey to achieve success.

SO HAVE PATIENCE! KEEP WORKING HARD!! YOU’LL GET SUCCESS IN ANY FIELD!!!
